It was an absolute honor to illustrate the official map for @gallelitfest 2024—a festival that celebrates literature, culture, and connection in one of the most magical corners of the island. From day one, the goal was to craft a map that didn’t just guide—but invited.

🎨 I began by preserving the iconic visual language of the festival—its bold colors, typography, and design DNA—ensuring familiarity for long-time GLF goers. But we also wanted to go deeper. Inspired by the historic charm of Galle Fort, we wove in textures, motifs, and little nods to the venues themselves—each corner of the map designed to feel like a footnote from a beloved book.

The map is a guide, yes—but also a keepsake. One that captures the magic of getting just a little bit lost in a city made for stories.

Two weekends in Jaffna, and I left with more than just sketchbooks full of maps—I left with a full heart. I had the joy of mentoring a vibrant group of students in visual storytelling, guiding them through sacred sites, street corners, and memory lanes. Together, we mapped Jaffna’s soul, one story at a time.

But the magic? That lived in the bonds—between mentors and students, between Dutch and local participants. Watching them learn each other’s languages (and dance moves), share stories and snacks, and transform from strangers to teammates? Absolute serotonin. 🥹

Jaffna, thank you for the chaos, the stories and the soul.

Bringing Trincomalee to life through illustration was an adventure in itself!

This new cultural map for iDiscover is a tribute to Trinco's heritage, every landmark a hidden tale waiting to be uncovered. From bustling markets to sacred temples, Trinco’s soul is mapped out in colors, lines, and (if you look closely) a few Easter eggs! 👀💙

The workshop with Trinco’s young creatives was just as inspiring—exploration, storytelling, and lots of “Aha!” moments. Watching them survey the city, weave their narratives, and see their ideas take shape was a reminder of why I love doing this. And we had some pretty special guests too—Her Excellency, Mrs. Bonnie Horbach, the Dutch Ambassador to Sri Lanka, joined in, making this journey even more meaningful!

Two weeks in Trinco meant sunrises over the ocean, fishermen painting the waves with their nets, and quiet reflections at the British War Cemetery—a city of contrasts, history, and movement.

In 2022 I had the opportunity to illustrate the new Matara heritage map while also mentoring young students in illustration and concept development. The map highlights the architecturally significant locations in and around Matara Fort!

The workshop kicked off with an exploration of Matara—walking through the streets, observing the people, patterns, and stories hidden in plain sight.

Seeing the creativity and effort of our Matara students come to life was honestly the best part of the whole experience. The final iDiscover Matara map & app turned out to be something special—a collective effort capturing heritage through art, sound, and storytelling.
